What's new in Trace.Space

Every Trace.Space release and what it changed for you, newest first.

Written by Matthew Maclaine

This page lists every Trace.Space release, newest first, and what each one changed for the people who use it. Releases reach the hosted services on the date shown.

If you run Trace.Space yourself, the version you are on decides which of these changes you have; your administrator can tell you which one is deployed. Articles in this help center say which version they apply to when it matters.

Version 1.41.0 — September 14, 2026

  • Compare Baselines: Comparison is now fully available - highlight changes in the tree, review item diffs, and choose which attributes to compare.

  • Variants in Every View: Switch the active variant from the top of Explore pages (Dashboard, Items, Analysis, and Parameters). The left sidebar is split into Manage and Explore so navigation stays clearer.

  • Baselines as Variants: Mark a baseline as a variant when you create or edit it, with a Variant tag and a Variants column (and filter) on the baselines table.

  • Pin and Update Versions: Pin a specific item version or keep it on a live/rolling pin, bump outdated pins to the latest version in one action, and see which versions are pinned in item history. Traces and item details follow the pinned version and stay read-only while pinned.

  • Apply Type Changes to Existing Items: When you edit a type attribute, you can save that change for all existing items at once.

  • Clearer AI Edits: If AI cannot update an attribute because the type does not allow it, the chat now tells you which attributes were blocked.

  • More Readable Attributes: Expanded text now shows full attribute values in the item sidebar, and document view can show attribute names instead of only tooltips. Tree-row actions sit over long titles instead of pushing them aside.

  • Safer API Skill Downloads: The API client skill download now distinguishes reads from writes and warns before you take a mutating action.

  • Fixes: More reliable variant and baseline behavior (new items pin to the active variant, frozen variants hide create actions, history and time machine show the correct version), plus polish across compare, sidebars, AI item creation, and background exports.

Version 1.40.0 — August 26, 2026

  • Compare Baselines: Compare any two baselines side by side - open the compare view from a baseline, switch which versions you are comparing, and review changes either as a list of differences or in a tree view. A baseline history screen in the sidebar gives you a full record of how a baseline evolved.

  • Expanded Text: A global "Expanded text" toggle shows full item titles instead of truncated ones across the left sidebar, including trace titles and test run names in the item sidebar.

  • Consistent View Settings: Layout and view settings now apply across all routes and views, with a tidier set of controls.

  • Richer DocX Exports: Exports now carry across every content type used in attribute fields.

  • More AI Models: An expanded model catalog gives you more AI options to choose from.

  • Test Step Automation: New endpoints let you create and manage test steps programmatically.

  • Fixes: Improved accuracy of the Traced To filter and item titles, steadier AI text generation without flashing, a restored "Generate" attribute button, more reliable ReqIF imports, and a number of dashboard, filter and Analysis view polish fixes.

Version 1.39.0 — August 10, 2026

  • AI-Assisted Editing: Ask the AI to edit item attributes, review proposed changes with highlighting before accepting, regenerate attributes from the document, table or sidebar, and select text in the editor to refine it with "Edit with AI".

Version 1.38.0 — August 05, 2026

  • Variants: Choose an active variant and every view - tree, document, table, graph and matrix - shows the exact version of each item pinned in that variant, with a clear indicator of what belongs to it. Narrow all views down to just the items in the variant when you want to focus, and pinned items stay protected from accidental edits.

  • Faster Loading on Large Datasets: Big organizations load noticeably quicker - large item trees, recent activity and trace navigation are all significantly more responsive.

Version 1.37.0 — August 03, 2026

  • Zoom In on Images and Diagrams: Open any image or diagram in a full-screen view with zoom and pan, making it easy to inspect fine details.

  • Export Saved Filters: Export the contents of a saved filter view to .xlsx or .docx, the same way you can elsewhere in the product.

  • Gemini Models: Gemini models are now available as an AI option.

  • Test Run Comments and History: Leave comments directly on test runs and view their full history, just like reviews and baselines.

  • Reorganized Analysis Sidebar: Analyses, Saved Filters and the Traceability Matrix now live together under a single "Analysis" section for easier navigation, with favorite, rename, share and delete actions available on each.

  • Fixes: Improved reliability around test run notifications and controls, corrected trace direction wording when creating traces, and polished the Analysis view layout.

Version 1.36.0 — July 29, 2026

  • Analysis View (Beta): Build a multi-step analysis by chaining filters together and see how your items connect across each step in a single table. Choose which attributes each step shows, save an analysis to come back to it later, or simply ask the AI assistant to build one for you.

  • Custom Dashboards: Build your own dashboards - create, rename, duplicate and delete them, add table panels driven by your saved filters, and arrange everything by dragging panels into place. Choose which columns each panel shows, and in what order.

  • Test Management Improvements: See test runs directly in the item sidebar, filter test cases in the table view, and act on many test cases at once with bulk actions and quicker action menus.

  • Background Processes at a Glance: Long-running work now appears on your dashboard with clear names, live status and links that take you straight to the result.

  • Uninterrupted AI Chat: Chat now runs reliably in the background with better stop and resume behavior, so answers finish even as you move around the app.

  • Easier Item Organization: The tree scrolls automatically while you drag an item, making it far easier to move items across long lists.

  • Broader Trace Permissions: Team members with read access can now create and manage traces, while parent-child traces stay restricted to those with edit rights.

  • Safer Bulk Deletes: Deleting while a filter is applied no longer removes items you cannot see.

  • Fixes: Improved reliability around deleted items, CSV import, comment notification links, single item view layout, test execution results, filtering and AI responses, plus faster loading of background process information.

  • Fixes: More reliable and secure email delivery with stricter validation of sender addresses, plus security hardening from dependency updates.

Version 1.35.0 — July 02, 2026

  • Test Management (Beta): Run and manage test runs with a new table view - see results, testers, progress, and versions at a glance, edit results inline, and add test cases on the fly.

  • Faster Exports: Exports now run in the background - keep working and get notified with an automatic download when your file is ready, no more blocking progress windows.

  • Fixes: More reliable filtering (including "no value" filters), a smoother video editing experience, and improved stability around item restore, sign-out, saved filters, and email delivery.

Version 1.34.0 — June 29, 2026

  • Video in the Editor: Add videos to your items the same way you add images - copy-paste, drag-and-drop, or a quick command - then resize and move them between editors.

  • Faster Trace Editing: Reverse a trace or switch its type with a single click right from the Traceability Matrix, and enjoy clearer, easier-to-read trace selection.

  • Uninterrupted AI Chat: AI responses now finish in the background even if you navigate away or close the panel, so you never lose an answer in progress.

  • More Readable AI Responses: Refined formatting, spacing, and styling make AI chat easier to read at a glance.

  • AI Saved Filters: Turn AI chat results into a Saved Filter in one click, so you can revisit and refine the same set of items later.

  • Traceability Matrix Improvements: The legend now shows every trace type and direction, and you can hide empty cells to focus only on rows and columns that actually have traces.

  • Faster Trace Workflows: Create items and traces straight from the "Missing trace" window with a confirmation when a new item is created, and open any traced item in a new tab with right-click or CMD+click.

  • Broader API Access: Any organization member can now create their own API clients, and download a ready-made skill to start querying Trace.Space right away.
