Trace.Space uses the concept of items as the building block of the application. An item is a specific type of information that you categorize and manage. For instance, you might have different types of items like "Requirements," "Test Cases," or "Notes", and each type of item you create can have different attributes like: Heading, Description, Status, Priority, etc.

Creating and editing items

Creating new items

You can use the left navigation tree to create a new item by clicking the "+" button that appears while you hover an item.

Or in document view, hover in between items and click the "+" button

and right-click to add an item of a different type.

You can also generate items when you chat with AI or when you import a document.

Saving items

Our system automatically saves all your changes in real-time as you and your colleagues edit the items. All changes are versioned so you can view all the previous edits by accessing the History tab for each item.

Versioning

To view previous versions of an item, right-click on it to open the item's details in the sidebar, and then go to the "History" tab. Here you will see the list of versions an item has, starting with the most recent one.

Click on any to view how it looked at that moment in time, or click on the "Compare" button to compare it to the current version.

Editor options

Select any part of an item's text to see the editor toolbar, which allows you to change text formatting, link an external URL, or add a comment. Current features:

  • bold

  • italic

  • underline

  • bulleted list

  • clear formatting

  • add a URL

While editing you can also type “/” to bring out the options menu, allowing you to quickly upload an image or import a new file, link a parameter or generate content with AI

Item actions

Hovering any item will show a three-dot icon and a checkbox on its left-hand side. Click the three-dot icon to see possible actions or select two or multiple items for bulk actions.
From here you can:

  • Open details sidebar

  • Trace items

  • Import files - imported items will become child items of the current one

  • Export files

  • Delete items

  • Baseline items
