Quality checks use AI to test the text of your items against writing rules from the INCOSE and EARS guides, such as "use shall", "one requirement per statement", or "avoid vague terms". Failed rules are highlighted in the text, listed per attribute, and can be fixed with AI in one click. The fix runs on the organization's default model, which an org admin sets under AI providers.
Turning quality checks on
Quality checks are a per-user view setting. In the document or table view, click the View settings icon at the top right of the page and switch on Quality checks under Features. The setting is remembered for you in this organization.
Seeing the results
With quality checks on, text that breaks a rule is highlighted in the document view. Hover a highlight to see which rule is not met.
The item details sidebar has a Quality row with a status button:
Checks pass (green) - every enabled rule is met.
N improvements found (yellow) - some rules are broken. Click the button to see them.
Quality check off (gray) - no rules are enabled for this item type or attribute.
The quality check screen
Clicking the status button opens Quality Checks for the item in the sidebar. Attributes are listed one by one, each with the number of issues in brackets. Under each attribute the rules are grouped by category, with a green check for rules that pass, a red cross for rules that fail, and a dash for rules that are disabled. Hover a rule to read its definition.
Click the gear icon in the header to jump to the item type's settings.
Fix issues with AI
Every attribute with issues has a Fix issues with AI button. Click it and the AI rewrites the attribute so that it meets the enabled rules, following any AI Instructions set on the item type. A dialog titled AI Improvements shows the Current version next to the AI Suggestion, with a switch to highlight what changed.
Click Accept to save the suggestion to the item.
Click Re-generate to ask for another attempt.
Click the bin icon to close without changes.
If the AI finds nothing to improve you see the message "Field has no issues, AI did not find any improvements". You need edit permission on the item to use this button.
Choosing which rules apply
Rules are configured in three layers. Each layer inherits from the one above it, so you set the general rule once and only override where needed.
Organization - go to Organization settings > Quality checks. Rules are grouped by category (for example INCOSE and EARS). The switch next to a category turns the whole category on or off, and the button next to each rule toggles that rule for the whole organization.
Item type and attribute - go to Organization settings > Item types, open a type and click an attribute. Expand Quality check to see the same tree for that attribute. Each rule button has three states: inherited from the organization default, enabled here, or disabled here. Hover a button to see its current state and what a click will do. When every rule is off for the attribute, the heading reads Quality check (Off).
Changing these settings needs permission to edit item types. Otherwise the buttons are disabled with the tooltip "You don't have permission to change Quality Check settings".
