When you ask the AI to change an existing item, it never writes to the item directly. It shows an edit proposal in the chat, you check the changes, and you decide whether to apply them. The older pencil icon and "Refine response" screen no longer exist; refining now happens in the chat, on the model selected there or the organization's default; see AI providers.
Three ways to ask for an edit
In the chat. Ask the Space Agent to change an item, for example "Rewrite the Description of @REQ-42 as a shall statement" or "Set the Priority of @REQ-42 to High".
Edit with AI on selected text. Select some text in a rich-text attribute and click Edit with AI in the toolbar that appears. Type what you want done with that selection into the Prompt box and press Enter. A new chat opens with the item in context and the agent replies with a proposal.
Regenerate an attribute. Hover an attribute that already has a value and click its sparkle button (**Regenerate **). The request goes to the chat in the same way.
Reading the proposal
The proposal is a card in the chat. Its header links to the item. The body shows the attribute values as they would look after the change, with the Attributes section collapsed underneath.
Turn on the Highlight changes switch to see exactly what differs. Text attributes show deleted text struck out and new text highlighted. Picklists and other attributes show the current value, an arrow, and the proposed value. Only changed attributes are listed in this mode.
Applying or rejecting
Click Apply to write the changes to the item. The card is marked Applied.
Click the bin icon to reject. The card collapses and is marked Rejected.
If someone edited the item after the proposal was made, hovering Apply shows the warning "The item has changed since this suggestion. Applying it will overwrite the current values." Check the current item before applying.
You can only apply if you have permission to edit the item.
Messages you may see on a card
No changes were needed - the agent decided the item already meets your request.
The item already matches this suggestion - the values were applied another way in the meantime.
AI edits are not allowed for ... attribute - AI generation is switched off for those attributes in the item type settings. The message names the attributes it could not touch, so you can see what was left out of an otherwise applied edit. Ask an admin to switch on Generate with AI for the attribute in the item type settings, or edit it manually.
Item no longer exists - the item was deleted.
Refining a proposal
If the proposal is not right, do not apply it. Reply in the chat with what to change, such as "shorter" or "keep the original units". The agent answers with a new proposal card and the old one stays in the history for comparison.
