The left sidebar is how you move around Trace.Space. Its lower half is the item tree: your project structure, where you open, create, rearrange and act on items.
The sidebar sections
The sidebar is split into two labeled groups. Manage holds the things you set up and run: Baselines, Reviews and Test management. Explore holds the ways you look at your items: Analysis (which holds Saved analyses, Saved filters and Traceability Matrix), Parameters and the Items tree itself.
Click a name to open its list page, or expand it to see its entries as a tree. Saved analyses and Parameters are marked Beta. Only one section is open at a time; opening another collapses the previous one.
A long title in the tree is no longer pushed aside when you hover it: the row's actions sit over the end of the title instead.
The Items section is the item tree. Its header has a ... button (right-click works too) with New item, Paste, Import and Access control for the top level of the project. The buttons at the bottom of the tree, New item and Import, do the same for the two most common jobs.
Using the tree to navigate
Click:
a top-level item to load it with all its sub-items in the document view
any parent item to load it and its sub-items in the document view
any child item to load its parent and scroll to that item in the document view
The item loaded in the document view is highlighted in the tree. The item currently open in the details sidebar shows a sidebar icon instead of its type icon. Items you can only read appear in a lighter color. If you lose an item, use Show in tree from its ... menu: the tree expands to it and flashes the row.
Creating items from the tree
Hover an item and click the + that appears to add another item of the same type, or right-click the + to pick a type under Add item, Add child item or Other types. The full procedure, including the first top-level item, is in Creating items and project structure.
The ... on a hovered row (or a right-click on the row) opens the item's actions: Open details, Single item view, Copy (and Paste once you have copied an item), Trace to, Copy URL, Import, Export, Delete, Baseline, Review and Access control.
Rearranging items
Click and drag an item to move it. While dragging:
A dashed line between two rows means the item will be placed there, at the same level as its neighbours.
A dashed border around a row means the item will be dropped inside that row, as its child.
When you drag near the top or bottom edge, the tree scrolls automatically, so you can move items to far-away positions.
You can also drop a tree item onto the divider between two items in the document view.
Moving an item needs write access to the item, its old parent and its new parent. Otherwise the tree shows You do not have permission to move this item here and puts the item back.
Expanded text
Long titles are cut off with an ellipsis by default. Open the settings menu in the sidebar header and switch on Expanded text to wrap full titles in every tree, and in the trace list of the item sidebar. The setting is personal and stays on until you switch it off.
Variants in the tree
When a variant is active, every row in the tree shows a dot: solid green for items that belong to the variant, faded green for items that only contain variant members, and no color means Not in variant.
